A coastguard is someone who is trained to maintain and carry out rescues on the coastline or in the ocean.
Before the Ocean Rescue Center was concieved. The coastline and Ocean was maintained by the village lifeboat crew. Ben Hooper has been Pontypandy's Coastguard since Series 9. It is his job to report daily weather and tidal reports and handle wreckage and pollution within the coastline and ocean. He also responds with the Ocean Rescue team when they get the emergency call.

- In real life, Coastguards have a navy or silver 4x4 with yellow and navy Battenberg pattern along the side to respond to incidents on the beach itself.
