Alien Alert (also known as Alien Alert: The Movie) is a feature-length special. It was released in Australia on 5 October 2016, was released in the UK cinema on 17 June 2017, was released on DVD in the UK on 2 October, was released in South Korea at cinema on 8th November 2018 and was released on 10 April 2019 on DVD in South Korea. It takes place between Series 10 and Series 11.
Plot
Pontypandy is hit by a raft of UFO sightings and Fireman Sam is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery.

- James' line, 'In the woods, no one can hear you scream', is a reference to the quote 'in space, no one can hear you scream', a tagline used to advertise Ridley Scott's 1979 cult Sci-Fi/Horror movie, Alien.

- The US dub of this special was hard to find:
- It was released to Amazon Prime in the US, but it has the UK dub instead. However, the special was then released to WildBrain's VOD service as the US dub. The US dub can also be found elsewhere (via Internet Archive).
- This special was given a different voice cast in South Korea.
- This is the first time a Land Vehicle is on Pontypandy Island.
- This is the first time Venus was in another area except Pontypandy.
- This is the first special where Sam doesn’t get to drive Jupiter in a fire or an emergency.
- This is the first time Wallaby 2 lifted a Vehicle.
- This is the first special where Chief Fire Officer Boyce does not appear.
- This is the last special to have a Russian dub.
- The only special dubbed in Korean.
- The last special to be dubbed into Welsh.
- The first time where the citizens have mobile phones.
- The animation of the response sequence of the fire service getting ready to the emergency on Pontypandy Island is reused from The Treasure of Pontypandy Pete when the fire service goes the emergency to save Joe Sparkes, albeit heavily edited.
Goofs
- Sarah refers to her Uncle Sam as "Fireman Sam" at one point, but corrects herself later on. James also calls him "Fireman Sam" near the climax.
- In the scene where Sam is riding Mercury to the Ocean Rescue Centre with Venus, you can see that the Series 5-Heroes of the Storm fire service logo is on Mercury’s riding helmet instead of the series 10-onwards fire service logo.
